Book Reviews
When I was in college, my entire life revolved around reading and literary criticism. After I graduated, my entire life became writing and editing. I am passionate about narratives. Studying literature in college helped me to understand what constitutes a strong story. Editing fiction and nonfiction as an adult has sharpened my instincts.
Now, as a newbie book reviewer/blogger, I can apply what I have learned as a literary critic and editor to highlight some of the best and worst the industry has to offer. I'm never right and I'm never wrong. A review is subjective. When we open books, we enter into an intimate relationship with them. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. A book that may have been my literary soul mate may be the bane of someone else's existence. Look no farther than the Amazon page for any given bestseller if you don't believe me. There are, believe it or not, people who did not love Ulysses as much as I did, if you can imagine such a thing.
So take my reviews in the spirit they are intended: as suggestions. I can be tough and I can be effusive. I will always try to give more than a mere plot recap, drawing upon my critical and editorial knowledge to strike at some of a book's deeper narrative issues.
